ACE

ACE is the Place

ACE (Alternative Cooperative Education) is for students 16-20 years old. We serve at-risk students who have been unsuccessful in their traditional high school due to personal and/or academic challenges. The alternative schedule has proven favorable for students who may have otherwise dropped out of school. We utilize student needs and interests to make this program relevant, while providing a standards-based, C-CAP aligned curriculum.

Students can make up lost credit to continue toward their goal of earning a high school diploma! While the core content classes offer a stable foundation, experiential education, social and vocational opportunities abound. Such courses include the required Friday "Pathway" options: Warren Tech classes, experiential classes, volunteer work, or a variety of other options. Each course successfully completed earns .25 credit. We grade on a traditional scale with the exception of not giving credit for a "D".

Who are our students?

Our students respond best to an alternative classfishing special block schedule with specific guidelines for:

  • Attendance
  • Performance
  • Behavior

While most acquire jobs after graduation, many continue their education at technical schools, community colleges, and four-year universities.

What are Our Expectations?

ACE students are expected to:

  • Complete their classes and maintain attendance with no more than 5 absences in a 9 week quarter
  • Complete 1.5 credits each quarter. Students not meeting these expectations will be placed on attendance and/or performance leave.
  • Students are also expected to pass all of their classes with a minimum percentage of 70.

To ensure student success, the ACE program conducts small class sizes and focuses on student-teacher relationships to support the needs of each individual student. We also offer Focus after school for students who need extra time or extra help in any of their classes.

ACE Schedule

In the ACE program, we understand that students have lives outside of the classroom. We do our best to work with our students schedules.

Our program starts at 8:00 am and goes until 12:40 pm Monday through Thursday and from 8:00 am to 12:00 on Fridays. This allows our students the opportunity to take Warren Tech classes in the afternoon or find work outside of school. Our students take 3 classes Monday through Thursday with their first and last class being 50 minutes each, lasting all quarter.

The second class, called block, is only a 3 week class that goes from 9:00 to 11:40 with a 10 minute break in the middle. Students take 3 blocks per quarter. On Fridays, students take one class from 8:00-12:00 that is experiential learning. This allows our students a chance to earn up to 1.25 credits per quarter.

OJE (On the Job Experience)

Students have the option of earning additional credit while working under our On the Job Experience.

  • During this program, students can earn 0.25 credits a quarter towards an elective credit.
  • Students can enroll in OJE during any quarter in which they have a job.

ACE Traditions

There are numerous activities that help make ACE special. These activities are a great way for students and staff to interact with each other in a positive, educational environment. Many great bonds are formed through these activities.
